spatial division antennas at Titanic Quarter BelfastGroupe Intellex has pioneered the adoption of Mobile Broadband in Europe and has supported similar initiatives around the world - particularly in articulating the technological and economic benefits of Spatial Division systems with very high spectral efficiency.

The era when wireless systems designers could be profligate in their use of spectrum is fast fading.   As spectrum is beoming a scarce resource it is also increasingly difficult for major industry players to argue for global and regional spectrum harmonisation.  Meanwhile, in commercial services and trials around the world the performance of HC-SDMA (the ATIS/ANSI standard for High Capacity - Spatial Division Multiple Access) is demonstrating the strength of an aproach that is a derives from systems deployed in the Far East - operating through more than 300,000 base stations with around 53 million subscribers.

The picture shows the UK's first HC-SDMA antenna array at the Northern Ireland Science park's Innovation Centre.  The pioneer project ws supported by Personal Broadband UK Ltd and Northern Ireland's Department of Enterprise Trade and Investment (DET).  In 2007 Personal Broadband acquired spectrum licences covering the whole of the island of Ireland and work is now underway for a commerial deployment starting in Belfast.
